Althing Debate format

Straw poll on the motion.

Affirmative for the motion begins, 10 - 15 minutes.

Then speaker against the motion, 10 - 15 minutes

Second proposer speaks, 10 minutes.

Second speaker against the motion, 10 minutes.

We then have a break with tea,  and biscuits, followed by questions and points from the audience.

Final summing up from both sides followed by final vote from the audience.

Depending on how lively the questions are and how contentious the topic is, the debate normally ends between 9 and 10pm.
